PROSPECTIVE UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

Discover the Arts Tours

We invite prospective and admitted undergraduate students to visit our campus throughout the year, including for Discover the Arts Tours, highlighting Corcoran programs and spaces across campus. You can come to explore our home in the city. Registration for tours is available online by searching for the "Discover the Arts" tours.

Please note:  Discover the Arts Tours (DTA) are inclusive of Foggy Bottom Campus tour content with an emphasis on the arts and design community.  It not recommended to do both a Foggy Bottom Campus Tour and a DTA Tour due to duplicate content.

The tour begins at the Admissions & Alumni Welcome Center (800 21st Street, NW).

You'll hear from a GW Admissions Director about opportunities at GW and our Corcoran School of the Arts and Design programs, along with information about admissions and financial aid. Following the information session, a current Corcoran student will lead the tour of the Foggy Bottom campus presenting highlights of our studios, galleries, theater spaces and music rooms available to students at GW’s Corcoran School of the Arts and Design.

The tour ends at our historic Flagg Building (500 17th Street, NW).

Discover the Arts Tours for Fall 2019 are available on Mondays at 1:00 p.m. and Fridays at 12:30 p.m. through December 13.*

National Portfolio Days

Each year, the National Portfolio Day Association holds undergraduate and graduate National Portfolio Days across the country. These educational events for emerging artists bring together students and experienced college representatives who review artwork, offer critique, discuss college plans and share information about their programs.

National Portfolio Day is not an examination or a competition. Reviewers look forward to seeing students' work and providing them with helpful information for the next important step in their education. A portfolio review takes approximately 15 minutes.

Participation gives students a taste of what it is like to attend a professional art program. Students should keep in mind that they may hear many different opinions about their work, but will have the opportunity to explain their creative thought process and how they would like their work to progress.

For more information and to see a full list of 2019 National Portfolio Days, please visit the National Portfolio Day website.

Washington, DC National Portfolio Day

Saturday, November 2, 2019 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Hosted at George Mason University

Portfolio Tips

Students should bring original artwork when possible. These can include sketchbooks, works in progress and what are considered the best finished pieces. We suggest that you do not spend time and money matting or framing your work. If the artwork is large, three-dimensional or otherwise hard to carry, we suggest that students bring photographs of the work instead. Students may bring their own laptop or tablet; school representatives will not have laptops available to view images online or stored on a flash drive. Be sure your devices are fully charged!

If you have questions about what materials to include, registration, or simply need more information, check the NPD FAQs page.

We sing in a variety of different genres including Brazilian Bossa Nova, R&B, Blues and Swing with an emphasis on authentically representing each style's culture as accurately as possible so our audiences can feel and enjoy the groove and the sounds we create. Come and experience the fun and culture!

Friday Jazz Jams

The jazz jams are an informal, student-run event every Friday at 5 pm, where students and community members can play around, listen, and learn in a group setting.
