The Arts + Design Living Learning Community (LLC) gives first-year students the option to participate in a creative, intellectual living environment that raises awareness of the power of the arts and design in our daily lives, the impact it has on our community, and inspires students to action.
About the Arts + Design Community
Students are prepared to be leaders in the Corcoran, GW, and local communities through formal and informal opportunities. Coursework and programming is structured to encourage students to:
- Recognize and Discuss the impact of the arts and design in daily life.
- Examine the power of arts and design to impact the community and inspire students to raise awareness through Community Action.
- Become familiar with DC Arts + Design Scene through examination of and visits to local performing arts venues, exhibition spaces, and other arts organizations, large and small.
- Work together with the William Wilson Corcoran Visiting Professor for Community Engagement on a special project that is driven by the LLC community.
Shared Learning Experience
Arts + Design Community students take a shared University Writing (UW) course in the fall of their first-year. The UW1020 course focuses on arts and design (topics may vary each year). UW courses are required of all GW students, and these sections focus on topics that align with the community goals.
APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS
Priority placement will be given to first-year Corcoran Scholars students, however, the LLC is composed of first-year students from across Corcoran programs, so we strongly encourage majors and minors to apply through the Housing Application.
Admitted first-year Corcoran students simply indicate this preference on their Housing Application.
