The Smith Hall of Art houses our Fine Arts and Art History programs, as well as Gallery 102. The Art History program's administrative office is located at 801 22nd Street, NW in Room 101.

Access

Corcoran students enrolled in photography, new media, or digital media classes have access to Smith 2A03. It is also open to Corcoran photo majors and graduate students in the MFA or NMPJ programs. The door is kept locked unless faculty member or student staff member is present to run an open lab.

Students must wear a mask and sign in to open studios.

Access

Corcoran students enrolled in photography, new media, or digital media classes. Also open to Corcoran photo majors and graduate students in the MFA or NMPJ programs. Checkout is available whenever there is a tech in either the darkroom or in the digital studio.

Students must wear a mask.

Availibility

Some equipment is reserved for specific classes. Please email [email protected] with equipment requests.

Equipment checkout is open to students any time there is a darkroom or digital lab open studio time. Please see pages for Smith 207 (Darkroom B), Smith 213/214 (Darkroom A), and Smith 2A03 / Smith 2A04 (Digital Labs) for their open studio times. Lab techs will be available at those locations during open studio times and will be able to assist students with equipment checkout.

SMITH 207: Photography Classroom & Darkroom B

Resources

  • 14 Omega enlargers that print 35mm, 120mm, 220mm, 645, and 4x5 negatives
  • Silver gelatin print chemistry (Dektol developer, Sprint stop bath, Sprint speed fixer, Sprint fixer remover)
  • Chemistry for black and white film development (D-76 developer, Sprint speed fixer, Spring speed fixer remover)
  • Non-silver processes are also done in this space, such as cyanotype, albumen, etc...

Corcoran or other GW students enrolled in a photography class specifically scheduled in this darkroom, Corcoran photo majors, graduate students in the MFA or NMPJ programs. Students need to have been trained by a faculty member or staff on these enlargers prior to use.

Sign Up: Students show up during open studio times and have to hand their GWorld cards over to the tech to check out any equipment for film development or an enlarger key.

Access & Availibility

The lab in 405 is used as a backup open studio space if there is an emergency or problem in Smith 2A03. In between scheduled classes, the classroom is kept locked and is not available for independent open studio time.
