Corcoran Textile and Dress Studies Micro-Minor
The Corcoran Textile and Dress Studies program is a nine-credit micro-minor offered by the Art History Program at the Corcoran School of the Arts & Design in partnership with The George Washington University Museum and The Textile Museum. It is open to all GW undergraduates.
By completing this micro-minor, students will be able to:
- Analyze a range of textile materials, structures and techniques, and identify them with the appropriate terminology
- Describe at least one set of textiles and articulate their importance within their historical and cultural context
- Identify how changes in textile design relate to culture, society, politics, technology and industry
How to Apply
Students interested in registering for the micro-minor should contact bobler

gwu [dot] edu (Katrina Orsini) to complete a Declaration of Major/Minor/Micro-Minor form. Students in the micro-minor should declare as soon as they are interested, but no later than by the first semester of their senior year. Curriculum Requirements
Students are required to take the three-credit foundational course CAH 2450: Textiles 101: Fiber to Fabric. Students will then select one course from two groups of courses: "Culture and Collecting" and "Production and Impact."
The following courses can be used to fulfill the six credits of elective courses. One three-credit course must be selected from each group:
Culture and Collecting
- CAH 3450: Fashion Histories
- CAH 3451: Global Textiles
- CAH 4450: Special Topics in Textile and Dress Studies
Production and Impact
- CAH 3452: Special Topics in Textile Economies
- SUST 2005: Responsible Fashion
