In 2014, the Corcoran merged with the George Washington University. The GW departments of Fine Arts & Art History, Museum Studies, Music, Theatre & Dance and Interior Architecture joined the Corcoran School, creating a new cultural hub at GW, and for Washington, D.C.
Alumni from both the Corcoran and GW are doing amazing work and connecting with each other. They are producing remarkable art from films to coloring books and staying engaged whether it’s by founding biennials to stopping by the school to critique student work.

Students at the Corcoran have exhibited their thesis work for more than 30 years. In 2011, the exhibition came to be known as NEXT in a nod to the public seeing “what’s next” in contemporary art and scholarship. In 2023, NEXT evolved into a festival format to encompass the diversity of all the school’s programs and provide more public facing programming for the DC community.
