The Visual Resources Center (VRC) provides images and teaching support for faculty and students in The Corcoran School of Arts and Design (Corcoran) and for those teaching image intensive courses in the university. GWU faculty, students, and staff have access to:

  • JSTOR (3 million images mostly art and architecture)
  • VRC digital image collection CAH Visual Resources Collection (38,000 images including the Corcoran Art History teaching collection and additional special collections hosted in JSTOR).
  • VRC Research Guide Helpful resources for digital image use and development in research
  • The Art and Architecture Slide Collection by appointment ( located in Smith Hall of Art )

These resources reflect teaching and research interests across the humanities with concentrations in art and architectural history.

 

VRC Services and support

Services include:

  • Development, preservation, and maintenance of the Corcoran’s digital collections in collaboration with GWU research initiatives and in support of the Corcoran’s teaching and research needs
  • Assist users with digital image collections for teaching, research, and special collections
  • Assist instructors with developing digital imaging projects, using image editing software (including: cataloging images, hosting images and access applications, consulting on image scanning, formatting, size, and quality)
  • Produce and acquire images on demand for teaching, and research.
  • Assist users who want to convert personal slide and print collections to digital format
  • Provide access to specialized audiovisual equipment
