Shoutout To Our Corcoran Scholars
Nisani is a senior in the Class of 2020 double majoring in Dance and Psychology. Originally from New York City, Nisani has spent the past four years at the Corcoran developing her craft and pursuing new and experimental ways to represent her medium. When asked about her creative process and why she decides to create, she responded by saying, “I am a modern dancer and choreographer. I strive to use the body to create work that puzzles, startles, or strike any type of emotion to my dancers and audience members.”
“The dance program at GW is always striving for something new and innovative to bring to the students in the department while fostering leadership skills to create a bold, strong dancer.”

Being in DC also provides access to many important political and social events. ” As a community, we thrive when we are able to help establish our students dreams. We’re glad to have had Monique with us for the past four years. When she was asked why she chose to be a Corcoran Scholar she said, “I wanted to pursue my art while being a leader in my program.”
"I’m most looking forward to exploring new styles of dance that I am not necessarily comfortable with and going outside of my comfort zone.”

Lianna is from Long Island, New York and is majoring in Fine Arts. She is a first-year student, specifically interested in obtaining her BFA at the Corcoran. Lianna plans to take her art to the next level by tackling important issues and topics within her medium. Lianna noted that, “As an artist, I love using my art to communicate to others about the importance of wildlife conservation. My work tends to focus on endangered species and how we can help protect them.” Aside from the school, she is also interested in the overall idea of DC being her new home. She says that, “Besides being in the capitol, my favorite part about living in D.C. is the diversity of people that live and work here. It creates a truly open environment where people are open-minded and accepting of other cultures.” We are so excited to have such a driven member of the Corcoran Scholar Family.
