R.W Turner Lab at GW School of Medicine & Health Sciences

The R.W. Turner Lab is a group of researchers founded by Dr. Robert W. Turner II and is based out of The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. The lab’s research mainly focuses on neurological and psychological health and aims to provide caregivers with the best and most up-to-date information with which they can treat their clients. Current studies include the Athlete Brain Health and Aging Study, as well as the Black Male Caregiver Burden Study. Learn more about our studies here.

 

Digital Communications Intern: We are looking for a talented Digital Communications intern that is interested in supporting research through the creation and management of online social media platforms to improve health and support for the well-being of men of all ages. Candidates are comfortable managing multiple social media platforms and websites, and have strong writing, communication, and time-management skills. The selected candidate will gain valuable experience working with a small team of interns to implement social media campaigns; design and disseminate email communications, flyers, postcards, and other media; keep the lab’s websites up to date; and complete other ad-hoc tasks as per the lab’s needs. This role is an unpaid position and is available immediately. Interns must be available to work at least 10 hours a week.

 

Opportunity for Independent Study (Option): Students wishing to satisfy academic credits for health-related courses may do so by registering for a “one-time” 3 credit undergraduate or graduate level independent in the spring or summer semesters with Dr. Robert W. Turner II.

 

Scope of Work:

  • Meet regularly with the media team to check in on progress, strategize, and develop media plans
  • Run regular aesthetic and functional sweeps of lab’s websites, updating content and UI/UX functionality when necessary.
  • Create ideas for social media campaigns to increase participant interest, specifically designed for research enrollment
  • Find and contact organizations and members of population of interest on social media
  • Schedule posts to Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn using appropriate tone and voice
  • Utilize graphic design software to create flyers, postcards, and other communication media.
  • Design and disseminate email communications such as newsletters to keep study participants engaged with the lab.
  • Assist PI with other projects as needed.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience running social media pages across multiple platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube
  • Experience with ContentCal or a similar social media management platform
  • Experience building and managing websites using Squarespace, Wix, or a similar CMS
  • Experience with graphic design software such as Canva or InDesign
  • Experience with MailerLite or similar email marketing software
  • Familiarity with Ripple or a similar registry management software
  • Ability to communicate swiftly and reliably with team members
  • Ability to multitask and manage time efficiently
