Paid Summer Internship Opportunity with the National Park Service

April 28, 2023

The C&O Canal National Historical Park has 2 six-month paid internships that we're recruiting for in the Great Falls, MD section of the park.  In addition to pay, the internships offers:

  • A $450 professional development funds (in the past interns have applied those funds to everything from conference attendance to purchasing books or other equipment that would help them professionally)
  • A $3,247.50 AmeriCorps Segal Education Award
  • And non-competitive eligibility when applying to federal jobs through the Public Lands Corps Hiring Authority (basically if anyone is interested in finding work in the federal government, completing this internship will help with the hiring process)

Interns would support our interpretive operations in the Great Falls area which include a wide verity of experiential learning programs (we engage visitors with artifacts, historic locks on the canal, model canal boats, live mules, and much more!), our visitor center operations, and some exhibit design work. Internships are designed to be portfolio and resume building for interns - they're hands-on and interns are assigned specific projects in order to gain an in-depth knowledge of program development from initial design to assessment.  We also support intern networking efforts both within NPS and the broader public history field and provide interpretive and other operational training - so there are a lot of opportunities for career development through this internship!
