Nyerges and Gray Fellowship in Museum Studies
Every year, the Museum Studies program awards the Nyerges and Gray Fellowship in Museum Studies. The fellowship will award $10,000 in tuition to a Museum Studies student who is at least in the second semester of graduate work and in good standing.
The Nyerges and Gray Fellowship is named for its benefactors Alex Nyerges (B.A. '79, M.A. '82) and his wife Kathryn Gray. Nyerges has more than 40 years of experience as an art museum director and is currently Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond. Nyerges serves as a board member at The George Washington University Museum and in 2021, he was the recipient of the Monumental Alumni Award, which recognizes GW’s most outstanding living graduates. Gray is a visual artist who served for many years on the board of trustees for the Visual Arts Center of Richmond.
Students who wish to apply for the Fellowship submit an essay of 500 to 700 words describing their financial need, addressing what they plan to do in their museum career, and their intended impact on the field. The application is due annually in October.
Please note: Students in receipt of another fellowship or scholarship, please consult your letter of notification to check whether you are allowed to receive an additional fellowship.
