Important Update from Corcoran

March 20, 2020

Alt Text

Dear students, faculty, and staff:

We are now following the guidance from the university that sets library policy and closing to student access all Corcoran facilities as of Friday, March 20. If you need to pick up anything from the Corcoran from your studios or elsewhere to do your work, please come as soon as possible. Do not come if you are sick. When in any Corcoran buildings, be sure to maintain social distances. The number of students permitted in the buildings at one time may be limited.

Please see the library info below from today's COVID-19 GW guidance.

At the moment, our buildings are still accessible to our faculty and staff through swipe access. However, given the spread of this virus and the guidance on social distancing, etc. by the university policy, I recommend you stay away unless absolutely necessary - and taking all precautions if you do come to campus. We will keep you updated on any changes. The majority of Corcoran staff and faculty are already teleworking.

As President LeBlanc announced late Monday afternoon, GW is canceling all on-campus events including graduation for the foreseeable future. Unfortunately, this includes NEXT. I feel sad about both these decisions. While completely necessary (and following the laws governing a national state of emergency), it means that we will not be able to celebrate you, your artistic achievements, and/or your academic accomplishments in quite the way that we were planning. Right now, your thesis advisors, professors, and program heads are coming up with a series of options of what we can do. In the next few days, I will be talking with many of them to consider what the best course of action is. You are welcome to send me any suggestions yourselves at [email protected].

Following spring break, classes will be taking place online (even studio classes) and you should be hearing from your individual professors on how they are going to proceed to deliver class content. We ask for your patience and understanding as we proceed into what is unchartered territory for most of us. Thank you for all your help in the past, today, and in the future.

Stay well, Kym
