Arts + Design Living Learning Community

The Arts + Design Living Learning Community (LLC) gives first-year students the option to participate in a creative, intellectual living environment that raises awareness of the power of the arts and design in our daily lives, the impact it has on our community, and inspires students to action.

About the Arts + Design Community

Students are prepared to be leaders in the Corcoran, GW, and local communities through formal and informal opportunities.  Coursework and programming is structured to encourage students to:

  • Recognize, discuss, and experience the impact of the arts and design in daily life.
  • Examine the power of arts and design to impact the community and inspire students to raise awareness through community action.
  • Experience the GW and DC arts + design scene through examination of and visits to local performing arts venues, exhibition spaces, and other arts organizations, large and small.
  • Provide a variety of opportunities that allow students to explore their interests.

Shared Learning Experience

Arts + Design Community students take a shared University Writing (UW) course in the fall of their first-year.  The UW1020 course focuses on arts and design (topics may vary each year). UW courses are required of all GW students, and these sections focus on topics that align with the community goals.

Application and Selection Process

The Arts + Design Community gives first-year Corcoran students the option to participate in a creative, intellectual living environment that raises awareness of the power of the arts and design in our daily lives, the impact it has on our community, and inspires students to action. Priority placement will be given to Corcoran Scholars students, however, the LLC is composed of students from across Corcoran programs, so we strongly encourage majors and minors to apply.

Admitted first-year Corcoran students simply indicate this preference on their Housing Application.
