Bio

Sarah Rogers Morris, PhD, is an art historian with an interest in global histories of architectural modernism, the material culture of photography, craft and design histories, and the social and cultural foundations of education. From 2024 through 2025, Sarah is the American Women’s History Initiative Curatorial Research Assistant at the Smithsonian’s Renwick Gallery, where she is working on State Fairs: Growing American Craft, a survey of craft at American state fairs from the nineteenth century to the present. Sarah received her PhD from University of Illinois Chicago's Department of Art History in 2025. She holds an MA in the history of design, decorative arts, and material culture from the Bard Graduate Center and a BA in art history from New York University. Her work has been supported by the Smithsonian American Art Museum, National Museum of American History, and the University of Illinois, Chicago. Her writing has been featured in a variety of scholarly and popular web and print publications, including The Chronicle of Higher Education, Future Anterior, the International Journal of Islamic Architecture, Architect's Newspaper, and Pin-Up. Sarah has worked in the non-profit sector for over a decade, including at the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts, Mies van der Rohe Society, and as Executive Director of the Chicago Women in Architecture Foundation. She is an active member of the Society of Architectural Historians, enthusiastic participant in the Hannah Arendt Center’s Virtual Reading Group, and library volunteer at her kids’ public school.
