Graduate Orientation

 

Welcome to the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design at GW! We are thrilled to have you join us this year. You are now part of an incredible network of students, faculty, staff, and alumni who are at the forefront of the most innovative scholarship, creative work, and cultural development happening today.

 

Classes for the fall semester begin on Monday, August 30, 2021. 

 

To prepare for the new school year, our graduate programs will be hosting in-person or live virtual orientation sessions. Please refer to your program’s orientation information below for the exact dates and times of the sessions you should attend. Every incoming graduate student is strongly encouraged to attend their orientation sessions.

 

We will also be hosting a virtual Corcoran Graduate Orientation for incoming graduate students in all of our programs on Wednesday, August 25 at 10am EDT. For details about the session, please see the information under your program’s information below. 

 

If you are unable to attend the orientation sessions, please reach out to the Director of Graduate Studies (DGS) or Graduate Faculty Advisor for your program.

Location: ACA Studio, 2129 G Street NW, Building L (rear)

Join us for a welcome breakfast and tour of the facility, followed by an introduction of the faculty and fellow cohort members. After a discussion of our policies and what our year is expected to look like, the incoming students present short monologues to the group.

Exhibition Design MA Orientation

Location: Please meet in the atrium of the Corcoran Flagg Building, 500 17th St NW, Washington, DC 20006 and we will move to a nearby picnic area.

 

The GWU Corcoran MA--EX welcomes you and kicks off the 2021-22 academic year via a group picnic. We will discuss logistics and the year(s) ahead over boxed lunches and beverages under the Foggy Bottom skies. Bring your questions and something to sit on.

Welcome Artists!

Please join us for a joint Fine Arts and Social Practice orientation. This will be an opportunity to meet some of your faculty and each other as we tour your studios and workshop spaces. We will begin at the Smith Building in the heart of Foggy Bottom Campus and make our way to the Flagg Building, home of the historical Corcoran School of Art. There we will share light refreshments and what promises to be an exciting conversation.

Join us for a general program introduction to Museum Studies led by Interim Program Head, Mary Coughlin. Following the introduction session students will break out into groups to meet with their advisor.

New Media Photojournalism MA Orientation

Welcome NMPJ Class of 2023!
Please join our New Media Photojournalism orientation on Wednesday, 25 August, 1-3pm. We will meet at the Smith Hall of Art for a walk-thru of the darkrooms and digital printing studios. We'll then walk across campus to the Corcoran Flagg building to see other maker spaces, the lighting studio, and classrooms. We'll be joined by current students and alumni as we discuss expectations and best practices. We'll wrap up with light refreshments and the opportunity to meet graduate students from other Corcoran programs.
