Flagg Building Updates


2022-2023 UPDATE

November 15, 2022: Over the next few months, you will begin to see infrastructure improvements to the Flagg Building. Work will focus on the windows and roof, as well as the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system in the second floor galleries. We apologize for any inconvenience this work may cause, and we will endeavor to minimize disruptions to your academic or work routines. Additional details are outlined below.

  • Window restoration work that began this summer is ongoing and is expected to continue through the end of 2023. This work includes removing and restoring existing windows to meet historic preservation requirements and improve how the building regulates its environment.
  • Scaffolding and temporary walls will be installed after final exams in December in the atrium on both the first and second floors, as well as in the second floor galleries to prepare for work to upgrade the HVAC system. This installation may be noisy and the atrium portion is expected to be completed prior to the start of classes in January.
  • Beginning in January, work is expected to take place Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. until 3 p.m. We anticipate that this work will be completed in fall 2023.

Any significantly disruptive work will be scheduled, when possible, for early mornings or after hours. Corcoran staff and faculty are working to relocate classes and exhibitions to minimize disruption due to renovation work. You will continue to receive updates on this project through physical building signs, monthly emails and online at go.gwu.edu/reno. 2019-2020 UPDATE

August 15, 2019:  Contractors have begun assessing the building’s windows, interior/exterior walls, spaces, skylights and roof.  Information gathered during this assessment will be used to determine a schedule for repairs in 2020 (with significant work planned to occur in summer following the academic year) -- details will be shared when they are confirmed in coming months. This work is a follow on to the previous renovations of the Flagg Building.  It is not anticipated this work will impact academic/work routines or cause any disruptions (most of the work will occur when classes are not in session).  Signs will be posted in the building with updates and information is also being shared via email to all students/staff and on this page.  If you have any questions or concerns, please email [email protected].
