Winston Art Scholarship & Frank Wright Awards 2023

January 19, 2023

Now is the perfect time to assemble or work on your art pieces for the application for the WINSTON ART SCHOLARSHIP and the FRANK WRIGHT AWARDS IN ART 2022. .   The New Year may bring other distractions, including time and work challenges, so please consider sending in your application early.  $12,000 is available this year for the Winston Art Scholarship, plus an additional $4,000 from the Washington DC Chapter, to include the Frank Wright Art Awards.

Attached you will find:
1.   Information/Requirements for the WINSTON ART SCHOLARSHIP which is open for artists between the ages of 16 and 22 years. Awards will be divided into two categories: 16-18 yrs and 19-22 years.  If you fall outside that age range, but know someone who might be interested in applying, please forward this e mail on to them.  Thank you.

Past  winners of the National Winston Art Scholarship are eligible to apply as long as they are within the age range.

2.  The Application Form for the Winston Art Scholarship/Frank Wright Award (same form) is attached.

Please read both documents carefully before sending in your application.

3.  Chapter List:  Most likely, you fall into the Washington DC Metro catchment area, but if you are not based in either Washington DC, Maryland or Northern Virginia there may be another NSAL Chapter to which you can apply.  If there is no chapter in your area, then you can apply to this chapter. If you go to college in this area, but your family home is elsewhere, you can apply to the Washington DC Chapter.   See details on the Information/Requirements

Teachers and Professors - please share this information with your students as soon as possible.  This is a great opportunity for future or specialized study either in the summer vacation or to go towards college expenses.    Also an award is a valuable addition to a resume or application for college.

The Washington DC Chapter will honor:
Two first place winners, one from each age category for the National NSAL  Winston Art Scholarship plus an additional applicant, whose application will be sent on to the National Winston Art Scholarship.

Two winners from each category for the Frank Wright Art Awards.

There will be up to seven Highly Commended students.

It is one Application Form for both the Winston Art Scholarship and Frank Wright Art Awards. The three Winston Art DC winners will need to mail me their applications with a flash drive which we will forward to National Winston Art.   Details on this and about the late Naomi Rabb Winston and the late Frank Wright are on the Information/Requirements brochureattached.

THE DEADLINE FOR RECEIVING ENTRIES IS WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 1ST, 2023 by 5 pm EST.

If you have any questions, please e mail me at nsalcelia [dot] josephsatgmail [dot] com (nsalcelia[dot]josephs[at]gmail[dot]com).

We look forward to receiving your applications in due course.  Don't leave it too late!  This is a great opportunity and in 2018 and 2019, the highest awardees, Pearson Chambers and Julia Gould (local and National winners of the Winston Art Awards presented their work at the National NSAL Conference. The 2020 top award was also a student studying in this area.   We need your application to showcase the exceptional talent in this area and beyond.

Deadline is February 1st 2023 so you have two months to put your art works together!   The few weeks before the holiday break may be a good time to start on your application and plan which art works to submit.  It is an online application, so it should not take up much time and there is no cost involved.
