Weekend Receptionist

The American Revolution Institute of the Society of the Cincinnati, a nonprofit historical and educational organization headquartered in Washington, D.C., seeks a part-time weekend receptionist to be responsible for staffing the front desk during weekend museum hours. The museum’s weekend hours are Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday, 12-4 p.m.

 

The weekend receptionist will be a public-facing, welcoming, and informative presence to ensure that all members of the public and the Society have a positive experience at Anderson House, the 1905 mansion and National Historic Landmark that is the headquarters of the Society of the Cincinnati.

Major Duties include:

  • Managing the reception desk during weekend museum hours, including answering phone inquiries;
  • Greeting and helping to orient visitors to Anderson House, and assisting the rest of the visitor services
  • team in managing tour logistics and museum security;
  • Managing museum shop sales;
  • Displaying a working knowledge of the Institute’s activities in order to address a wide range of inquiries
  • from the public and Society members on subjects including museum group tours, library research, rental
  • events, and member services; and
  • Assisting with the management of historical programs during weekend museum hours as needed.

 

Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree with previous work experience in a customer service role and an interest in museums or cultural institutions is preferred. A successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills (pleasant, resourceful, and professional demeanor). The weekend receptionist must be trustworthy and display good judgment. This position may involve moderate physical activity such as climbing stairs and lifting tables and chairs.

 

Hours and Salary:

The weekend receptionist will work Saturdays, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Sundays, 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.. Compensation for this position is $18 per hour.
