Interior Architecture Awards

 
  • Interior Architecture professor Alex Donahue won the 2023 Good Design Award for his Gradient watch. This award recognizes the most innovative industrial, product, and graphic designs produced around the world.
  • IA Graduate students Josef Beal, Diana Galvez, Aytan Muradzade, Ilayda Sakalli, Maya Rao with faculty Advisor Professor Erin Speck came in 3rd place in the 2023 Video student design competition hosted by the Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC). Their submission was entitled Rethinking the Design Symphony https://idec.org/idec-video-competition/. Their video explores the ways that interior designers can design for all the senses beyond sight.

  • Undergraduate students Abbie McGrann and Muskaan Lulla received the IA BFA Studio Award for students who excel in the five studio sequence
  • Undergraduate students Isabella Rasmussen and Eleni Deaton each were awarded the IA BFA Share Fund Start-up Scholarship Award given to promising first year students
  • Anna Helsel (MFA 2023) won the Mid-Atlantic chapter of the International Interior Design Association 2023 Student Design Award.
  • Ella Kuehnert  (BFA 2024) received a GW Outstanding Academic Achievement Award. It is presented to students who are the top two percent of their schools, by grade point average, that have earned at least 60 credits at the university by the fall 2022 semester.

  • Julia Winne (MFA 2023) was a finalist in the 19th Annual Design Within Reach Champagne Chair Competition.

  • Graduate student Cece Witherspoon (MFA) received an honorable mention (top 10) in the 2022 Steelcase National NEXT Student Design Competition. She was chosen from the 1,261 student entries from 77 interior design programs.

  • Graduate students Kathy Campanella and Maya Roa were each awarded the IA MFA Share Fund Start-up Scholarship Award given to promising first year students

  • Undergraduate students Yerinel Caceres and Arianie Siwady won the IA BFA Studio Awards for students who excelled in the five-studio sequence.

  • Graduate student Bryce Delaney won the IA MFA Studio Award for students who excel in the five-studio sequence.

  • Undergraduate students Ellen Ye and Emma Zihal won the IA BFA Juror’s Choice Awards for strongest capstone projects in Studio 5.

  • Dave Shove Brown, partner in the architectural firm //3877 received the IA Professional Engagement Award for his ongoing support of current students by hosting career and professional development activities and participating in critiques of student projects

  • Perla Antoniak, MFA 2015, interior designer at the international infrastructure consulting firm AECOM, received the IA Alumni Engagement Award for her support of current students by providing one-on-one reviews of student’s current work, and conducting events that highlight the experiences of IA alumni

  • Graduate students Soorin ChungNatalie Combs and Melany McGillvray received the IIDA Student Illinois Chapter RED Award that recognizes exemplary design for their proposal for The Children's INN at the National Institute of Health.

  • Graduate student Taylor Corzine won the IA MFA Juror’s Choice Award for strongest capstone project in Studio 5.

  • Undergraduate students Emma Zihal, Mary Baker, and Nengi Ikoli won the Extended Home Award for the Spring 2021 Arch Out Loud Shelter Competition
