Millicent Scarlett

Bio

Millicent Scarlett is an adjunct professor of voice and vocal facilitator in the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design's Music Program. Described as a “juicy tone” by the Baltimore Sun, soprano Millicent Scarlett, who hails from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, continues to display her artistic and musical artistry on the recital, orchestral and operatic stage with great success. She is heard frequently in concerts and recitals throughout Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia. She is currently preparing for Beethoven’s Ninth with the NIH Philharmonia under the baton of Maestra Nancia D’Alimonte.  Recently, she was heard at the Kennedy Center in the Messiah Sing-Along as the soprano soloist.  Millicent is a part of a new musical, 19: The Musical, A Women's Right to Vote, which is being workshopped around the DMV area. It debuted in November 2018 to great success where Millicent has been called “powerful and a standout in the cast”.  She was the guest soloist at the Washington National Cathedral's Veterans Day concert, where she performed with the President’s Own Marine Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Lt. Col. Jason Fettig. She was also a part of the Cathedral's "God’s Gonna Trouble the Waters" concert, which was in celebration of the opening of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture. In the summer of 2016, she performed in a concert of Spirituals in Winchester, Virginia, with fellow GW professor, Dr. Eileen Guenther. In December 2015, she performed Strauss’s “Four Last Songs” with the NIH Philharmonia, under the baton of Maestra Nancia D’Alimonte. She has been the winner of numerous awards, and scholarships, most notably the Luciano Pavarotti International Competition as a winner and a National Semi-finalist at The Met. She is currently preparing for a series of recital and public appearances in the DMV area.
