Faculty Development Grants

The Faculty Development Committee met on Tuesday, January 29, and there was unanimous agreement over the exciting range of the proposals. This was the largest round of proposals to date and we are thrilled to present the recipients of the Faculty Development Fund Award.

Casey Smith, Arts & Humanities. Support a research trip to UK at the British Library and St. Bride's Printing Library and to present a paper or chair a session at the "Research Society for Victorian Periodicals Annual Conference"

Clare Brown, Exhibition Design. Support attendance at professional conferences in the field of Exhibition Design

Dennis O'Neil, Fine Art. Bring artist Leonid Tishkov to the Corcoran and The Hand Print Workshop to present his ideas through screen prints, photographs and installation, assisted by Corcoran students.

Fine Art Faculty. Crates for the exhibition of fine art faculty in Milan, Italy to lead up to their participation in the Milan Expo 2015.

Gabriela Bulisova, Photography. Production of "TIME ZONE" project, a multimedia documentary that portrays the personal transformation and challenging reentry of a remarkable woman who spent half her life in prison.

Lisa Dillin, Fine Art. Production costs for "Communal Drinking Source," a work that explores the cultural norms surrounding methods of locating and receiving water.

Lynn Sures, Fine Art. Support registration in a blacksmithing class "Contemporary Forging" at Penland School in Penland, NC.

Marla McLean, Arts & Humanities. Support attendance to the conference "Educating for Creative Minds: Using Brain Science to Ignite Innovation and Imagination."

Muriel Hasbun, Photography.  To develop, research, teach and implement an interdisciplinary course and exchange program through the study of Janine Janowski's art collection, based on the Corcoran's "Arts 101" model.

Sarah McDermott, Art and the Book. Support the registration for courses at Paper and Book Intensive.

Sarah Noreen Hurtt, Art and the Book. Support attendance at the "Southern Graphics International Conference 2013"

Susan Sterner, New Media Photojournalism. Support a series of portrait and writing workshops with the market women in Suchitoto, El Salvador, continuing the larger project in El Salvador and the D.C. region. 

Tanya Paperny, New Media Photojournalism. Support attendance at the annual "Association of Writers & Writing Programs Conference"

William Newman, Fine Art. Production for a small catalogue for his upcoming painting exhibition.
