Channah Norman

Bio

Channah Norman is the Chief Counsel for the National Museum of the U.S. Army and its 46 subsidiary museums. Prior to her current role, she was an appellate attorney with the Department of Justice. While detailed from DOJ to INTERPOL’s Cultural Property Crimes Program in Washington, DC, she provided legal advice to assist in the recovery of a painting stolen from a French museum during World War I. Channah is a past Chair of the ABA Art & Cultural Heritage Law Committee and a former board member for the Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington. For the past three years, Channah has served on the steering committee of the Legal Issues in Museum Administration conference.

After studying Art History and French at Cornell University, Channah earned an MA in Art Business from the Sotheby’s Institute in London, during which time she worked with the Robert Holden Art Consultancy and at Bonhams in the Twentieth Century Fine and Decorative Art Department. Most recently, Channah completed an LLM in Art & Cultural Property Law from Georgetown University. She has also studied at the Sorbonne and the Geneva Institute in Transnational Law.
