Schillica Howard

Bio

Schillica Howard is an Assistant Professor of Museum Studies, bringing a fresh perspective and passion for collections management to the field. Before joining the faculty at GW, Schillica worked primarily with African American collections, museums, and cultural institutions as a curator, collections manager, and registrar focusing on preserving marginalized narratives. Outside her academic responsibilities, Schillica remains actively engaged in professional networks. She held a leadership position within the Collections Stewardship (CS-AAM) Professional Network of the American Alliance of Museums (AAM). She is also a founding member of the IDEA (Identity, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility) Committee, advocating for more inclusive and equitable collections management practices. Committed to making a positive impact, Schillica Howard continues to contribute to her community as an active member Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, where she plays a significant role in her chapter's Heritage & Archive Committee. Additionally, she volunteers at the innovative Girl Museum, aligning with her vision of fostering change and inclusivity within cultural institutions.

Schillica Howard resides in Washington, D.C., with her partner and their two cats.
