2023 Corcoran School of the Arts & Design T-Shirt Design Contest
Official Rules

NO ENTRY FEE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN.
VOID WHERE PROHIBITED.

  1. Description. The George Washington University (“University”) through its Corcoran School of the Arts & Design (“Corcoran”) offers the 2023 Corcoran School of the Arts & Design T-shirt Design Contest (“Contest”) as an opportunity for current University students.
     
  2. Eligibility. The Contest is open to any University student who is eighteen (18) years of age or older at the time of participation (“Entrants”). The Contest is void where prohibited or otherwise restricted by law, rule, or regulation. All applicable United States federal, state, and local laws and regulations apply to this Contest and any Prize disbursement, including without limitation federal immigration or sanctions laws. By participating, Entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rule
     
  3. How to Enter and Qualify. To enter and qualify for the Prizes, Entrants must utilize a submission form to share their (i) name, (ii) email, and (iii) a link to their past work or portfolio (“Submissions”). All Submissions must be made by no later than February 1, 2023 (“Submission Period”). Only Submissions made during the Submission Period will be considered for the Contest.
     
  4. Selection of Finalists. Corcoran faculty will review all Submissions and choose finalists to advance in the Prize selection process (“Finalists”). Each Finalist that elects to continue in the Contest will be paid $250 and required to design a Corcoran t-shirt that satisfies the following requirements:
    1. Prints on a buff, blue, or white t-shirt color;
    2. Includes “Corcoran School of the Arts and Design at the George Washington University” or the Corcoran logo on the t-shirt sleeve;
    3. Utilizes the t-shirt’s front (maximum imprint area of 12”x12”) in a manner that best embodies the Corcoran; and
    4. Uses no more than four (4) different design colors, with a preference on using at least two (2) colors from the University’s official color palette (“Design”).

      All Finalist Design submissions must be original works produced by the Finalists that do not infringe the ownership rights of any other person or entity. All Finalists must submit their Designs in both PDF and EPS formatted files to this Dropbox location between February 10, 2023 and March 10, 2023 (“Design Period”).
       
  5. Selection of Winner. University staff members from Communications and Marketing, Campus Stores, and Corcoran (“Committee”) will select and award the Prizes to two (2) Finalists with the best overall Design (“Winners”). The Winners shall be selected at the Committee’s sole discretion; however, the Committee may also consider popular votes cast through the University’s social media accounts on the best Design.
     
  6. Prize. The Winners will each receive $500 and a free t-shirt that uses the Winner’s submitted design (“Prize”). The Winner’s Design will also be available for printing and distribution by Corcoran and/or for resale in the Campus Stores.

    All federal, state, local, and other taxes associated with the acceptance and use of the Prize are the sole responsibility of the Winner. There are no Prize substitutions or options available. The Winner shall not be permitted to replace the Prize with another item or cash equivalent. The Prize is not transferable. If the Prize becomes unavailable, the University reserves the right, exercisable at any time and in its sole discretion, to either substitute a prize of comparable value or not award any prize to the Winners.  All Prize awards are at the University’s sole discretion.
     

  7. Winner Notification. Winners will be notified by email on April 1, 2023. The University will make three (3) notification attempts over a seven (7) day period; if the Winner is not reachable or does not respond to the notification, that Winner will be disqualified and, at the University’s sole discretion, a runner-up may be notified.

    Additionally, if a potential Winner is found to be ineligible or if the potential Winner does not comply with these Official Rules, such potential Winner will be disqualified and, at the University’s sole discretion, an applicable runner-up will be notified.  All Entrants agree to comply fully with each provision in these Official Rules. Any Entrants attempting to defraud or in any way tamper with this Contest and any Entrants who do not comply with these Official Rules, will be ineligible for the Prize. If during the Submission Period or Design Period, for reasons beyond the University’s control, the Contest is not capable of running as originally planned, the University, at its sole discretion, reserves the right to cancel or modify the Contest without liability, and to the extent feasible, will determine the Winners and award the Prize among Submissions or Designs received prior to cancellation or modification.
     

  8. T-Shirt Design Ownership. All Entrants, and specifically each Winner as a condition of receiving the Prize, hereby grant complete ownership rights, title, or interest in their Design to the University. Alternatively, each Winner agrees that their Design shall be deemed to have been specifically ordered and commissioned by the University, and is a work for hire as such term is used and defined in the United States’ Copyright Laws (17 U.S.C. § 101 et seq), and any similar laws found within other state and local jurisdictions. Accordingly, the University shall be considered the author of the Design, and the sole and exclusive owner throughout the world forever of all rights, title, and interest existing therein. To the extent that title to any such Design may not, by operation of law, automatically vest in the University, all rights, title, and interest therein shall be irrevocably assigned by each Winner to the University. Each Winner shall agree to execute and deliver any documents and take all such other actions as may be reasonably requested by the University to carry into effect the provisions of this Section 8 including, without limitation, the execution of assignments or copyright registrations.
     

  9. Release of Liability and Issues of Law. By participating, all Entrants release the University and its respective board members, officers, directors, employees, and agents (collectively, “Released Parties”) from any and all liability with respect to and in any way arising from participating in this Contest and/or acceptance or use of the Prize.  Released Parties are not responsible for lost, late, incomplete, inconsistent, damaged, inaccurate, stolen, delayed, undelivered, or garbled submissions; or for lost, interrupted or unavailable network, server, internet service provider, website; or for other errors or difficulties of any kind whether human, mechanical, electronic, computer, network, typographical or otherwise relating to or in connection with the Contest, including, without limitation, errors or difficulties which may occur in connection with the administration of the Contest, the submission, or the announcement of the Winner.  Released Parties are also not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by other Entrants, tampering, hacking, or by any equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Contest.  Released Parties are not responsible for injury or damage to any person's computer or tracking device related to or resulting from participating in this Contest.  Persons who tamper with or abuse any aspect of the Contest, who act in an unprofessional or disruptive manner or who are in violation of these Official Rules, as solely determined by the University, will be disqualified. Should any portion of the Contest be, in the University’s sole opinion, compromised by virus, worms, bugs, non-authorized human intervention or other causes which, in the sole opinion of the University, corrupt or impair the administration, security, fairness or proper play, the University reserves the right at its sole discretion to suspend, modify, or terminate the Contest and, if terminated, at its sole discretion and to the extent possible, determine a Winner from all eligible Submissions received prior to action.
     

  10. Governing Law. These Official Rules and this Contest are governed by all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.  The local and federal courts of the District of Columbia shall have sole jurisdiction of any controversies regarding the Official Rules and laws of the District of Columbia shall govern the Official Rules.  All Entrants waive any and all objections to jurisdiction and venue in those courts and hereby submit to the jurisdiction of those courts.
