Bio

Julie Huang Tucker enjoys being a part of the D.C. area’s thriving choral music scene, including serving as Director of Choral Activities at George Washington University, Music Director at First Presbyterian Church of Arlington, and Assistant Conductor of the University Chorale at the University of Maryland. Recent past appointments include Director of UMD’s Opera Chorus, Associate Conductor of Washington Men’s Camerata, Conducting Fellow of Choralis, Conductor of Encore Glen Echo, and Collaborative Keyboard Artist for Arlington Chorale and Washington Douglass Chorale.

Julie is an avid organist who has performed with the National Symphony Orchestra, National Philharmonic, Choral Arts Society of Washington, and Washington Chorus at the Kennedy Center, Strathmore Hall, and National Cathedral. As an educator curious about cross-cultural experiences, she has led initiatives varying from tango youth orchestra workshops in Mexico to township youth and prison inmate choirs in South Africa.  Since 2020, she has also shared her love of music over the airwaves as a fill-in host on WETA, Washington’s classical music radio station.  She holds a B.A. from Cornell University, where she focused on musicology, a M.M. in Organ Performance from the University of Oklahoma, and is currently pursuing her D.M.A. in Choral Conducting at the University of Maryland.
