The DC Student Arts Journalism Challenge, now in its tenth year, exists to identify and support talented young arts journalists. There is no fee to enter, and a cash prize of $250 is awarded to the college student winner, who is selected by a panel of professional journalists. The selectors in 2021 were Kayla Randall (NPR) and Jennifer Harlan (NYT).
The submission period for the 2022 competition has been extended. The new deadline is January 17, 2022.
Any undergraduate student enrolled at a DC area college or university is invited to apply, and any piece of arts journalism written in 2022 is eligible for entry. Submissions may be published or unpublished, and may include pieces written for a class.
