Bio

Dr. Caroline Angle Maguire is a historian and contract provenance researcher at the Smithsonian's National Museum of African Art (NMAfA), where she works to document the histories of objects in the museum's permanent collection. Maguire earned her Ph.D. in History from the University of Maryland in 2024, where she conducted research in museums and archives in the U.S., France, Algeria, Tunisia, and Senegal. Beyond provenance work, she is also interested in the histories of African museums, and she has published research in the African Studies Review, the Journal of West African History, and the Journal of Contemporary History.
