Toby Mulford is an expert in physical theatre, mask work, and Commedia dell'Arte. He is the former Artistic Director of Faction of Fools Theatre Company, DC's only company dedicated specifically to Commedia dell'Arte, where he directed The Miser and The Lady Becomes Him and acted in Titus Andronicus, Our Town, Hamlecchino: Clown Prince of Denmark, and A Commedia Romeo & Juliet, which continues to tour to schools and universities. In 2015, he directed GW Theatre & Dance's production of The Basilisk of Barnagasso.

Over the summer, he teaches a nationally-unique Commedia dell'Arte program for high schoolers with Traveling Players Ensemble, which mounts an original production and tours it throughout Virginia.
