Studio Russo, LLC was formed 1996 by Jon-Joseph Russo, landscape architect, sculptor, combining his education, Master Landscape Architecture, 1991, Cornell U. (Rome Architecture Program, 1990) and Bachelor Fine Arts, Sculpture, 1983, Alfred U. His studies are encapsulated in his thesis topic “Italian Garden, Synthesis of Architecture and Art” and reinforced by numerous trips to study gardens and sculpture in Italy and throughout Europe. Thus an interdisciplinary approach formed to produce high quality three-dimensional design of sculpture and interior and exterior spaces. Studio Russo implements a more Renaissance guild approach of the artist as master of several trades and his hand touching all work produced in his studio.
Since Jon-Joseph Russo moved to Washington, DC in 1992, Studio Russo has completed over 100 landscape, construction, sculpture, and furniture projects. Highlights are winning a commission for a Madonna and Child statue, in the Greek & Roman style, in collaboration with the landscape architect for the Mary Garden at the Basilica of the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Washington, DC in 2000, and his furniture sold in S. Korea.
He utilizes 35 years training. In the 1990’s, he was selected 1 of 12 from a nationwide internship competition by national landscape architecture firm EDAW, acquired extensive knowledge of perennial plants while working for nationally recognized landscape architects Oehme, van Sweden & Associates and assisted Ray Kaskey, sculptor of the National Mall WWII Memorial.
In the 1980’s, he worked developing construction skills by attending the Carpenter’s Union College in New York City, worked as a carpenter, mason, for commercial and residential general contractors.
