Working closely and under the direction of the Digital Manager, the position is responsible for sourcing and creating content for the Australian Embassy’s social media channels (predominantly Facebook and Instagram, including Instagram stories).
The intern will be expected to complete three days per week, however this is negotiable.
The internship is unpaid.
Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
Applicants must be currently enrolled in undergraduate or postgraduate degrees in communications, digital media, marketing, graphic design or other related fields.
Applications will also be accepted from recent graduates from either undergraduate or postgraduate studies.
Applicants must either be a United States citizen or a lawful permanent resident (Green Card holder) or hold a dependant visa with current Employment Authorisation. Under United States immigration law, any other class of visa (including "E," "F," and "J") is not compatible with working for a foreign mission.
It is recommended that candidates submit their internship applications as early as possible.

Summary of Duties
The intern will assist with researching, gathering and producing content and strategy for the following social channels:
- Instagram + stories
The position will also provide support in monitoring, analysing and reporting on current/emerging platforms, reporting (analytics) and community management (moderating content, replying to comments).
The successful candidate will ideally:
- Have knowledge of, and a personal interest in, Australia and modern forms of diplomacy
- Demonstrated experience using a variety of social media channels
- An eye for design – able to use design programs or Canva (online design template tool) – this can be trained if candidate has no experience.
- Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
- Have the ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- Have the ability to show initiative
