Polixeni Papapetrou

Polixeni Papapetrou is a contemporary Australian artist whose color photographs re-imagine scenes of loss and separation involving children. Her work has been shown internationally, with solo shows at Michael Foley Gallery in New York and Nellie Castan in Melbourne. Critic Robert Nelson describes her Haunted Country series as “inspired by real and fictional accounts of children who went missing in circumstances too frightening to contemplate. But it is not the children alone who are lost. It is also the land that is imminently to lose its natural condition; and the pictures already presuppose the loss of aboriginal culture.”
