Avi Gupta: There is Here

Curated by Emily Crane of the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Art, this exhibition features Corcoran Alum Avi Gupta’s photographs of domestic interiors in Kolkata, India juxtaposed with his photographs of interiors from the Washington DC region.

From the artist’s statement:

“Homes can be a reflection of how people conform to life.  Traces of the inhabitant’s experiences, routines, and values are often found in objects placed in their living space, a private sanctuary from everyday public happenings.  Within this construct of home, I am drawn to the nuances of culture in an era of globalization and migration.”

An opening reception for the exhibition with the artist will take place on Wednesday, May 28 from 6-8 p.m. An artist's talk will take place Wednesday, June 4 at 7 p.m. at the Corcoran. Both events are free and open to the public.
